Seven Things

31 Oct

By Whitney

Happy Halloween!!!!  It’s been a crazy week for me and I am really looking forward to a relaxing weekend.  Are you guys all ready with your costumes???  If you’re in a pickle, the Audrey Hepburn costume is an easy one to find in your closet.  A sleeveless black shift, giant pearls, a mini updo and grab a pair of full length gloves and you’re good to go.  Have fun!!

1.  It’s getting cold this weekend and I’m loving this coat in the lighter colors (the perfect gray).  It’s legit cozy with that hood and beyond adorable.

2.  Who doesn’t love Nutella recipes
3.  I love this easy sweater for work.  Pair it with a pencil skirt and you’re pretty much good to go (and it’s under $100 so…)
4.  I couldn’t stop laughing at this article about a man who outsourced his job and watched cat videos instead.  This guy has it made.
5.  Kate Spade and Gap Kids collaborated for what might be the cutest collection of all time (and is almost sold out).  Can I fit into this cape because I need to.
6.  I couldn’t resist a link to some amazing halloween costumes.
7.  One Kings Lane has a great sale on Three J NYC (Lauren and my fav pj brand!) going on right now.  I love these silk ones and of course these star print ones!

Seven Things

Yesterday we were all saddened to learn about the passing of Joan Rivers.  I first fell in love with her with Miss Piggy when the Muppets Took Manhattan and 30 years later, no one made me laugh like that woman.  We will all miss this pioneer of comedy.

1.  To s tart your day, here are 50 of Joan Rivers Best One Liners.  You’ll start to laugh through your sadness just like she wanted.

2.  A perfect pink sweater for fall.

3.  The NFL officially started last night and football is fun but finding some eye candy during the game is fun too.

4.  I needed new sneakers and it took me a really long time to find some that don’t have serious neon or are just plain ugly.  These Nike’s in grey made the cut.

5.  I’m not sure if I’ve posted this one before but I’ve been doing this Tone It Up arms workout for the past few weeks and I’m noticing a serious difference.  GET INVOLVED.

6.  Fashion Week started this week and NYC is abuzz.  I can’t wait to see Rebecca Minkoff’s wearable tech line but for today I’ll just ogle at BCBG’s gorge spring palette.

7.  A simple pair of booties for fall that you will wear everywhere.

22 Aug

I can’t believe  it’s almost Labor Day Weekend.  Crazy right?  Now it’s time for some rest this weekend and a cleanup of my apartment.  Dire. Need.  Have a good weekend! xoxo

1.  Throwback alert – I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Zach Morris.

2.  I adore this party dress and it comes in a color to flatter every skintone.

3.  My mom gave me the book Me Before You last weekend.  Definitely a beach read but I would describe myself as “unstoppable bawling” on Weds night at 1AM when I finished it.  A+.

4.  These Jonathan Adler sun hats are SO adorable for $44.   Thank you Jen for the  sales alert!!

5.  My sister and I hit a ton of beach traffic last weekend coming home.  Our entertainment included teaching ourselves to rap and listening to Snap Judgement on NPR.  I’m not usually an NPR listener but  Snap Judgement is a program revolving around individual stories that are pretty much incredible so I am now a fan.  We listened to a few and I was literally yelling, “NO” and “STOP IT” throughout most of them.

6.  I love this phone case.  Easy to spot in the bleak open spaces that are our handbags!

7.  Who knew there was a right way to cut a pineapple???

Spotlight on: Tory Burch Home

12 Aug

By Whitney

Tory Burch is always a go-to for my work apparel and now she has turned into a name I am looking into for home.  I dream of having a white house with all blue/white accessories so thank you, TB for fulfilling that dream.  I am loving how delicate all of the pieces are so go take a look!

Spongeware Pticher

I love the idea of bringing this pitcher filled with flowers to a party as a hostess gift.  How pretty AND useful!

Tory Burch Spongeware Pitcher – $98

Champs Glasses

Spring Meadows Set of 2 Champagne Flutes – $60

On another note (and one we don’t tend to do), our hearts go out for the sad sad loss of Robin Williams.  The outpouring of sweet comments from all kinds of cultural figures is truly touching.   The world is a little less funny today and there is nothing like that healing power of laughter.  “You’re only given a little spark of madness.  You mustn’t lose it” ~ Robin Williams.  Thank you for adding a little extra spark to all of our lives.

Dog Days of Summer

6 Aug

by Lauren

I am officially a crazy person.  I adopted another dog – a rescue.  I am a sucker and I couldn’t help it.  But look at this face, who can blame me?  So now Summer has a sister… We have named her Charlotte, or “Charlie” for short.

That said, I need to stock up on a few new items for this pup.  For chic dog accessories, I turn to Harry Barker.

Summer has the pink toile dog bed, and I am thinking about doing blue for the new girl.  The toile matches the rest of my fabrics nicely because the print is so subtle.

I am absolutely adore the Chelsea harnesses, and am ordering the one pictured below in a dark purple, light purple combination.

Last, I’m finding that TWO dogs are way messier than one, and thus I need a placemat to protect my wood floors… Toile overkill?

There is something so simply opulent about having nice linens.  I am a sucker for great sheets… and more recently, nice towels.  Enter: Kassatex Fine Linens.  I am in love with this set of towels I happened upon at a small store in Georgetown last fall (American Holiday) and now I am going back for more.  While I am sure any of their towels would make a lovely addition to a bathroom, I am drawn to the Madeira in Silver Cloud.  The jacquard print gives the towels a two toned hue, and means they look great against many backdrops.  They’re also made in a super soft velour fabric.  All in all, I highly recommend these!

Bedroom Makeover

3 Jun

by Lauren

Since my big move, I have been busy trying to get my life/house in order.  So much of my furniture needs to be replaced and obviously this is a process.  I am trying to be as deliberate as possible about each purchase so I dont tire of the pieces and so the design is exactly as I want it.  I have spent the majority of my time on the living room (post forthcoming), but am really excited about the headboard I am making for my bedroom.  I recently discovered a love for Otomi fabric.  Otomi is a bright, hand embroidered, Mexican fabric that depicts Mexican farm animals.  Here is a pretty good example —

Mexican Otomi fabric, tribal fabric, embroidered, colorful Otomi embroidery from Mexico, Otomi Textiles, peacock, bird

I had pretty much decided that I want my room to be bright blue and an orchid lilac… so I became fixated on finding a blue Otomi fabric.  After googling to the bottom of the internet and back, I finally found a swatch.

So this is step 1 in the bedroom makeover!  Otomi headboard… and if it isn’t animal overkill (that part is TBD), I am going to incorporate a patchwork cowhide rug in a pale camel —

To balance all of the animal elements, I am going to try to do some soft, feminine furniture – a dresser, nightstand and maybe a white love seat…but that is all TBD!

Memorial Day Sales

23 May

By Whitney

It’s finally the unofficial start to summer.  I love a holiday weekend.  Work slows down, I can actually sleep and there are amazing sales for us to shop.  Below are my favorites!  Go buy yourself something fun, ladies.  You deserve it.

1.  Nordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale is here.  I love this simple Vince top and this Joie tank that will be a summer go-to.

2.  Neiman’s is having a pretty amazing sale right now.  I love this perfectly pink DKNY dress and this adorable Red Valentino top.

3.  Bloomies also has a great summer sale going on.  It’s a great time to pick up some Chantelle bras for less or this great work dress!  Use code EXTRA20 for an extra 20% off of sale and get a ton of Loyalist points when you spend.

4.  Serena and Lily has 20% off of everything with code SUMMER20.  I’m obsessed with these gorgeous towels esp in the patriotic color theme!

5.  I went a little crazy at the Loeffler Randall sample sale last week (nothing beats those prices!) but now it’s your turn.  Loeffler has 30% off some great pieces like these perfect wedge sandals.

6.  Gigi NY has a tote bag that I am dying for.  Get free shipping, personalization and a gift with purchase.

7.  It hasn’t started yet but on Sunday, JCrew has 30% off site wide with the code WEEKEND.  Don’t get excited just yet but come Sunday morning, shop away! B

Outdoor Entertaining

12 May

By Whitney

My apartment is on the tiny side but the best part about it is the balcony.  I AM SO BIG TIME.  I want to get some outdoor entertaining pieces (champs on the terrace anyone???) without breaking the bank.  This weekend I found so much cute stuff with lots of color to entertain with!

Last year I picked up a bistro set for under $100 at Joss and Main.  I’m loving the pop of color on this one from One Kings Lane!

Kai 3-Pc Bistro Set, Blue

I’ll grab a set of outdoor placemats since no matter how amny times I clean my table, I’m convinced it’s covered in NYC grossness.

S/4 Carousel Outdoor Place Mats, Pink

I always love CWonder for reasonably priced fun home decor and their outdoor melamine tablesets are no exception.  I love the idea of this blue and white pattern.  A perfect tray ($38), dinner plates ($12), coral salad plates ($10), and a set of inset trays ($58) to put all of your guacs and dips in!

CWonder Melamine SetLast but not least, beverages must be served.  If I had a few ladies over, I’d mix up some spritzers in this acrylic beverage dispenser ($20), a set of unbreakable wine glasses (I feel like all men should own these), some fun tumblers just to have or some weatherproof goblets if you are feeling fancy.
