Shower Ready

22 Jun

By Whitney

My sister’s shower is coming up this weekend (yay!) and besides finding the most perfect blush + gold paper theme (love this Etsy shop), I wanted this tea party to be Pretty Polished Perfection.  However, my home ownership is rapidly approaching so my budget is LIMITED (an understatement).  I had my eye on the periwinkle Shoshanna dress below and thanks to my awesome friend Abby, I saw it was on RTR.  While on there, I found some other lovely frocks that I debated so wanted to share my thought process.

Brands We Love – Alice and Trixie

27 Apr

By Whitney

I did my closet switch-over this weekend and one of my favorite parts is reminding myself how much color I wear during the warmer months!!  One of my favorite brands for awesome pops of color is Alice and Trixie.   This brand makes the most gorgeous prints in silk dresses that will instantly make you smile.  I wore an amazing strapless (Alice and Trixie maxi (!!)  to the Lilly Beach Bash this past December (here’s a pic of me at the party!) and I couldn’t have channeled 60’s Palm Beach chic any better.  I’m looking for my next Alice and Trixie and here are my favorites so far…

Jackie Dress

Jackie Shift Dress –  $286

Andi Dress

Andi Dress (I love the style of their maxis with the awesome shoulder cuts and the navy top) – $320

Lilly Love

Spring means a lot of things.  Warmer weather to push me to run more, spray tans commencing and my Equinox membership getting it’s real value.  Another favorite?  Lilly dresses.  I  am loving the 60’s Lilly theme this season ( that crop top combo might be purchased for my sissy’s bachelorette) and there are so many cute prints this year!

Lilly Dresses

Vanna Crop Top Set (it’s TOO CUTE) – $198 // Alexa High Collar Shift (I own this and am obsessed) -$198 // Breakers Lace Top Shift Dress – $298 // Ember Shift Dress (I love this coral print!) – $198 // Rosie Square Neck Shift (the applique is so pretty) – $198

Winter Cocktail

3 Feb

By Lauren

I’m not sure about you all, but my winter is filling up with special occasions – weddings, fundraisers, vacations to escape this nasty weather… and with that comes the daunting task of looking good and staying comfortable (read: warm).  I have a few events that I need to dress for – ranging from casual to cocktail to black tie… and here are some of the looks I am eyeing.

Rachel Zoe

Anyone who knows me, knows I love a good jumpsuit.  A black jumpsuit has been a staple in my closet for years and I don’t think it ever hurts to add to the collection.  This one is versatile and will take me into the spring and fall… it can also be dressed up or down.

Cynthia Rowley

I love sleeves on dresses, and in this case, they add a practical element and help keep you a little bit warmer.

Elizabeth & James

Sexy and chic – if you’re been abiding by your New Year’s resolutions, this little number will flatter a well kept figure.

I like the heavy texture on this – the poofy skirt balances the look by making it playful and feminine.

Halston Heritage

A pop of orange stands out in a sea of winter picks.  I think this color rocks!

J. Brand

This is so Audrey Hepburn meets 2015 – a perfectly demure LBD.  I love the tight top and feminine skirt.  Oh, look, it comes in red, too:

(shopper’s note: this fabric is “denim” which may not be dressy enough for some occasions –  you would need to try it in person to make sure).

Dressing for Fall – Anthropologie Version

20 Aug

By Whitney

Anthropologie is one of those stores where some people can find a million things to buy each and every time they go in (READ:  my love THE Kate Mangiamelli of the Metropolitan Opera).  I love just walking around that store even if I don’t find a million things to try on.  However, this fall, I have to stay away for budgetary reasons because I am drooling over their amazing dress selection.  So many great pieces!!!  My favorites are below.  Their sale section is also pretty stellar.  Loving this watercolor dress and this gorge maxi.

Beach Wedding – April Edition

11 Mar

By Whitney

My best friend is headed to St. John for a wedding in a month which we have realized is not an easy trip to plan an outfit for.  Beach weddings are always tough but with summer prints not yet in full effect, I had to do some digging.  I am a huge fan of the maxi for beach weddings but not everyone loves that look so here are a few of my favorite options.  Rent The Runway options included!  Besides the below, I pretty much love everything from Alice and Trixie for a beach wedding.  This bright yellow maxi, this shorter more casual look, and this halter that comes in maxi or short version.

Beach Wedding Dresses 2

Top Row:  Trina Turk Leah Shift Dress – $270 // Milly  Neon Pink Punch Dress (also loving this gorge maxi on RTR) – $60 for a rental // Clover Canyon Fluorescent Rose Dress – $317

Bottom Row:  Eliza J Pleat Maxi Dress – $160 //Lilly Pulitzer Janice Shift Dress – $188 // Alice and Trixie Amanda Maxi Dress (love this in all of the prints) – $200 (was $400)

LBDs for Under $100

19 Aug

By Whitney

I always struggle in late August/September for what to wear.  While it is still officially summer, the colors tend to tone down and I never know what to wear.  I tend to lean towards skinnies but sometimes I want to throw on a dress and that usually means black is my color go-to.  My key requirements for transition dresses are either long sleeves or easy layering looks.  I love pairing jackets with shift dresses but I also love long sleeve dresses that keep me a bit cozier.  I also love the idea of a cotton maxi (love this one for $80) with a jean jacket.  So easy and comfy too.  I don’t like to spend a lot during these transitional months so here are some great ideas for under $100 each.

LBDS Under $100

Top Row:  BB Dakota Jade Cap Sleeve Sweater Dress – $98 // Splendid Long Sleeve Mini Dress  $98 // Sanctuary Dress New Mod Molly -$98

Bottom Row:  JCrew Factory Pointe Dress in Velvet Dot – $76 // Motel Jetty Dress With Plunge Neck – $60

It’s a Hot One Out There

15 Jul

By Whitney

It is so hot out.  Ugh.  The only way to cruise around NYC (and other disgusting cities) these days is in something airy and breezy.  The key to this is a cotton dress and since summer has been in full force for a while, I don’t want to spend a lot on something new.  I love the nautical stripes on the Michael Stars dress and the adorable sailboat print/braided halter detail on the Lilly dress.  You also can’t go wrong with a basic solid cotton dress and while walking by Loft on my way to work this morning, I saw so many cute ones including this perfectly cut halter neck dress.

Cotton Dresses

Lilly Pulitzer Lockwood Dress – $118 //Ann Taylor Loft Scoop Halter Neck Dress – $50 (on sale for $25!) // Splendid Henley Dress – $128 //Michael Stars  Hampton Stripe Mini (also loving the romper) – $78 (was $98) // Splendid Hermosa Stripe Maxi Dress – $138 (on sale here!) // Felicity & Coco Tank Dress – $68

Dress Request

10 Jun

by Lauren

We received a request from a certain international friend who is going to be attending several international weddings.  She needs a dress with some structure, a nipped waist, and with enough coverage for this type of auspicious setting.  While I have not been shopping for dresses at all recently, a quick search of shopbop (since she’s international shopbop is the most friendly for shipping arrangements), yielded a few great options.

DVF New Della

DVF New Della

I love the color & cut of this dress – and just as the model did, it would be great with a punchy necklace.  Plus the sash gives an ultra flattering silhouette.

A&O Tali Dress

Orange is the new black this season and since her weddings are in how climates, the cut outs on the back of this dress provide a little more breathing room while you are tearing it up on the dance floor.

Dolce Vita

Dolce Vita

This dress is super sweet & I love the tiny peek of the lower back.

Whitney and I are obsessed with this brand – she has this dress and I think its the most fab summer wedding dress – it’s also not nearly this short (I am gonna guess that this model is 7.5 feet tall). {Note: Nicholas is listed in AU sizes – a small is a 10}

Rebecca Minkoff Clara Dress

I absolutely love this dress and almost bought it in the tweed version (before realizing I have no occasion for it).  Had the store had this version in my size I would have gone for this version.  The pale gray and pink hues look so pretty in person & the cut on the dress is ultra flattering.

Milly Chevron

While this dress does have some white on it – the bold pattern mixed with the gray still makes it completely appropriate for a summer wedding.  I LOVE this dress.
