Jonesin’ for Jewels

22 Dec

by Lauren

After a very long hiatus from dang-ly earrings, I am back on the bandwagon.  Since minimalism and understated pairings have been in for so long, statement earrings are making a comeback.  Obviously we have all been lusting after Dannijo’s vibrant jewels for some time now, but her glitzy earrings are really talking to me right now.  A few of my favorites…

Simon Crystal Chandelier Earrings by Dannijo

The silver and blue hues in these would match basically everything in my closet and add a much needed dash of color this winter.

Dorothy Drop Earrings by Dannijo

A good drop earring elongates the face and after this holiday season, I’ll probably be needing help in that area.

Button Earrings by Dannijo

If you’re not feeling my flow, a bold pair of studs will always been en vogue – for you blue eyed babes, this pair will really make your eyes pop.

Cerise Earrings by Juliet and Company

These are just cool, I dont know what else to say – and you really can’t beat the bargain price of $44.

Shay Ear Crawlers

Ear “crawlers” can sound and look creepy, but this pair by Shay knocks it out of the park.  I think these would look smashing with an otherwise traditional outfit – they add a fun edge for a creative or hip cocktail party look.

Splurge vs. Steal – Parrot Earrings

A while back (2012 post found here), Lauren got the coolest pair of Elizabeth Cole earrings and I have been jealous ever since.   So.  Much.  Fun.  Cut to 2014.  My boss has a very fashionable fiancée and he sent me these earrings this morning to show me a very cool jewelry designer I wasn’t aware of (thank you, Dave).  I work in Consulting, people.  The fact that a colleague of mine sent me parrot earrings before 9AM is amazing.   They are so similar to the Elizabeth Cole version and made of Swarovski crystals so I am definitely down for saving $200+.  I’d love these with just a basic black dress!

Splurge:  Elizabeth Cole Crystal Parrot Earrings – $342

Steal:  Melody Ehsani See Me Parrot Earrings – $122

DIY Dior Earrings

10 Apr

Today we have a special guest post written by my dear friend Abby.   We talk Bravo and/or shopping on a daily basis via gchat and I hope this is one of many posts from her!   Thanks, Abs!

I’m so excited to share my DIY store with Pretty Polished readers! (I basically only buy what Whitney tells me to).  Like everyone else on Earth, I basically want to come back in my next life as Jennifer Lawrence, so when I spied these earrings, I wanted them.  Immediately.  I did not, however, want to pay 10 zillion dollars for them.   I found this helpful DIY and thought “I’m totally crafty!  I can do this”, and set off to make my own version.

I went to Target and purchased a set of “Pearl” Earrings – a 3 pack with different sizes.  This cost me $8.00.  I already had super glue and some of those rubber earring backs, but if i had to buy those also, it would have been a few dollars more.
I used some pliers to remove the backs from the biggest pearl earrings and was left with 2 big pearls with a TINY hole in each.  No way the rubber earring backs would fit in the hole.  I used my drill to make the hole a little bigger, but drill + plastic pearl is not the most successful combo.  The rubber backs didn’t go all the way in (so they’re not flush like in the instructions), but you can’t tell when they’re on, and they give the back pearl a little boost (so it’s not so flush with your ear) Basically I followed the directions exactly as in the directions other than the drill.
Here are  the finished product and me modeling the earrings on my way to the gym.  Total time was very short (I let the super glue dry overnight and reinforced it the next day since the backs didn’t go all the way into the pearls), and they’re holding up well!   I might recommend trying to find pearls with bigger holes if you try this on your own (maybe Claire’s has a “Pearl” necklace where the beads have bigger holes?).

I’m so excited about my new earrings and I think I saved myself $10,000 by DIY-ing them, so now I can buy more Kate Spade essentials.  Win Win.

My favorite affordable jewelry store Baublebar is having 25% off today through October 28th. Enter code “BBFAMILY” to get the deal! I have some great finds from here and wanted to share a few of my favorites below.   This is a dangerous sale for me.  I am going to grab myself a mini monogram that I’ve had my eye on for a while ($71 with sale regularly $95) and possibly a new ring.  This is a great time to get some monogrammed gifts for your newly engaged friends or some holiday gifts for your sissies/friends/moms/everyone!

Top Row:  Emerald Candy Strand – $50 (was $66) // Chevron Ring Stack – $19.50 (was $26) // Silver “Love” Bracelet – $16.50 (was $22) (I’m wearing this today in gold and it’s so so sweet) //Pop Portrait Studs – $21 (was $28) (loving the green!) //  Royal Bauble Collar – $24 (was $32)

Bottom Row:  Ivory Safire Bangle – $25.50 (was $34) // Rose Knot Studs – $18 (was $24)// Gold Arrow Ring – $18 ((was $24)  //Acrylic Script Monogram – $43.50 (was $58) // Knot Stud Trio – $24 (was $32)

Cute Earring Find!

29 Jun

Every week, one of our go to sites, Baublebar has a weekly special for one piece of jewelry discounted to $10. This week, these rainbow spot drop earrings are on sale for $10 (originally $24) and come in a variety of fun summer colors (cobalt, hot pink, white, aqua).  Simple and sweet, these would be a solid addition to your jewelry box!

Fun Finds for Under $100

14 Mar

By Whitney

While procrastinating this evening, I tried to compile some great spring finds for under $100.  This spring just has such great finds at all prices so anytime we find something we love that we won’t get mad at ourselves for purchasing, we get excited.

Top Row:

Kate Spade Treasure Chest Ring in Flo Pink ($78) –  is just fun.

Franco Sarto Year Wedge ($90) – I love these for so many reasons.  One, a wedge that isn’t 4″ high I can wear all day everyday.  Two, I love the basket weave detail.  Three, the nude on nude will go well with just about everything.

RD Style Pop Color Blazer ($89) –  in mint green (closer to a kelly) but also in watermelon and fuschia is just great.  I could wear this to work over a navy shift dress or out over a silk tank.  A+ in versatility.

Sperry Topsider Coral Seersucker Boat Shoe ($75) – I just can’t get enough of Sperry this season.  I’m obsessed with my navy and green ones that I featured and these are just as cute.  I love the idea of these with a simple skinny jean and navy blazer with gold buttons.

Bottom Row:

DV by Dolce Vita Archer Flat Sandals ($69) – These come in fun bright colors like blue and hot pink and the gold detailing just give them a little bit of flare.

Fluoro Boho Drops ($34) come in pink, aqua, indigo, tangerine and yellow.   These would be perfect for a summer wedding.

We haven’t talked about it but the Doo Ri collection for Macy’s is adorable and at amazing price points.  The Short Sleeve Geometric Printed Draped Wrap Dress ($75) also comes in a long sleeve version and I just love this color scheme.  (The Doo Ri collection also has this awesome Bow Tie Draped Ruffle Ruched Wrap $85 in black or green and I’m obsessed.)

Pim + Larkin Striped Mini Dress ($69) is just a fun summer dress.  I’d pair this  fun little number with a cobalt cardigan and perhaps the Franco Sarto nude wedges!
