This Shoshanna striped dress is absolutely adorable. I love the t shirt sleeves, the stripes, and the perfect color combo of the stripes themselves. What I don’t love is the $340 price tag. I went to Banana Republic the other day during one of those, “walk in this store and get 50% off of everything” days and saw this preppy similar version without the flared skirt (more flattering on my shape anyway) and had to have it. I wound up paying $55 and I love wearing it with a blazer for work (it’s long enough!) and some great wedges. The colors can definitely be worn into the early fall months too. Even if you don’t get a discount, it still is over 1/3 cheaper than Shoshanna and I adore!
Splurge: Shoshanna Striped Aviva Dress – $340
Steal: Banana Republic Multi-Stripe Ponte Dress – $98
Friends and Family at retailers like Saks are the perfect time to buy the classic pieces you really want but never want to pay full price. I can’t tell you the amount of wear I get from my DVF wrap dresses and I’ve never paid retail. I’d love a pair of Repetto flats to become my new go-tos. So many great options at Saks right now so get to it!

We’re hoping these colorful posts have gotten you in the mood for Spring since it officially started yesterday. Today’s color is periwinkle / cornflower blue – my absolute favorite to wear even without a spray tan. Nothing goes better with your basic white and the softness of this color translates so well on any soft fabric.

I. Love. Gingham. I think it’s adorable, preppy and just plain perfect. This week’s splurge vs. steal is focused on a fun cute printed piece for spring (to perk myself up on this snowy NYC morning). I fell in love with this Red Valentino dress but sadly, I cannot afford it for $625. However, I can afford the Taylor dress on the right and I’d pair with a white belt to play up the navy color. So so cute!!
Splurge: Red Valentino Sleeveless Gingham Dress – $625 // Steal: Taylor Dresses Fit & Flare Dress – $128
Years ago I owned a tartan plaid pleated skirt (with matching pointy toe flats) from JCrew and I sort of wish I still owned it. I just love this dark green and navy combo and I’m so happy to see it back this season in a McQ Alexander McQueen blazer that I keep seeing everywhere (not to mention the adorable dress version or the pants that would look just stunning with a plain navy or ivory turtleneck). I love pairing this with winter white pants or a dress for work. The leather skinny pants in this photo are also a pretty awesome combination. The only problem with this blazer is it’s price tag of $1,000. But that’s a legit problem so here are a few lower priced replacements to get that prep school look (Club Monaco offers a sick pair of these pants if you prefer Scottish bottoms).
Capulet Collegiate Plaid Blazer – $224
Olivia Moon Plaid Blazer – $88
Gap Plaid Academy Blazer – $98
Our apologies for going a tad MIA this week but things have been a bit hectic. I have found myself headed out of the city almost every weekend this summer and this has lead me to re-examine my weekend bag situation as I see a ton of different options every Friday on the streets of NYC. My go-to is a grayish purple and white polka dot LeSportSac from a couple of years ago that seems to become a Mary Poppins bag when it comes to overpacking. These are some of my favorites that I’ve seen thus far and it’s only July!
Top Row: Rail and Wharf 48 Hour Duffel – $118 (a bag your boyfriend won’t mind carrying for you) // Deux Lux Bowery B Sides Weekend Duffel – $216 (I am loving the gray but this also comes in pink, red, black, ecru and yellow!) // LeSportsac Large Weekender Duffle – $88 – $120
Bottom Row: Tory Burch Robinson Weekend Bag – $850 (love the orange leather for your fall trips!) // Jack Spade Wing Duffel – $395 (this is a guy’s bag but it’s classic) // J McLaughlin SailCloth Duffel – $275 (a great monogrammed piece that I’ve had on my lust list for years)
I’m always looking for office accessories that aren’t lame to help me appear to be put together at 8AM meetings when really I am sleeping with my eyes open. Insert May Books. These customized notebooks let you pick a pattern (nautical ropes, chevrons, you name it), add a monogram in an array of colors, and choose your paper (agendas, baby planning, plain old notebooks). They’re all under $25 which also make them the perfect gift for the list-lovers in your life (myself included). A friend just got a new job? What a perfect way to say congrats! I was bored so I created two (the previews are very helpful) that I would love to see in my taupe cubicle to add that pop of color that we all love so much.
May Books personalized notebooks – $17 – $23
A friend of mine has started a new lifestyle brand Sail to Sable and it is ABSOLUTELY adorable! Jen’s new line is preppy chic and the tunics can take you from day to night with just a change of a handbag. Pick your print and if a tunic isn’t what you’re searching for, add some cute pillows or festive placemats & napkins to your living space. I am loving the coral with navy trim and the pink stripe with navy rick rack!
Right now the brand is running a staff favorite sale and you can get 25% off the Patriotic Pride (cherry red with a pop of blue) and Lively Lime (striped lime with a navy accent) with the code “JULY4” at checkout. Tunics are the classic summer piece giving you that go-to option you’re always looking for and these are the perfect ones!
Now grab your Jack Rogers and pick one up (or two!) and head to your 4th of July barbeques. I can’t wait to get my hands on one!
A while back I featured this outfit on a Nordstroms post after seeing it in the catalog and loving it. I loved the colors and the watermelon skirt (and the price!) I went forward and put the outfit together with a navy Splendid cardigan I already own (but similar here) and an old blue gingham JCrew button down (similar here). I purchased the Collective Concepts Box Pleat skirt in watermelon ($68) and I love it. See below for the results…the skirt looks more corally in this photo than in reality but I adore and highly recommend!
