My dearest friend asked me to do a post on winter coats that are classic but don’t break the bank. I know my besties’ taste pretty well and I knew she wouldn’t want anything flashy or over the top (I threw in some faux fur but (almost) ALL OF IT IS REMOVABLE). I started my hunt by a) looking at options under $400 and b) coats that can be worn during the day but also to work to pretty conservative offices. The below are the options I picked out. Coats are pretty pricey these days so perhaps there will be a Part II of this post that shows absurdly $$$ coats that really aren’t even reasonable but we still want to dream about…
Top Row: Soia & Kyo Jana Asymmetrical Coat – $395 // JCrew Wool Melton Peacoat (I like that these lapels are a little bit wider than normal peacoats) – $325 // DKNY Faux Fur Collar Walker Coat – $215 // Zara Tailored Coat – $189
Bottom Row: JCrew Melton Military Coat (I tried this on and I’m kind of obsessed with it now) – $378 // Catherine Malindrino faux shearling coat – $155 // Ellen Tracy Kimono Sleeve Coat (I love that it has a hood!) – $270 (was $408) // Lauren Ralph Lauren Belted Stand Up Collar Coat (saving the best one for last bc I think this is my favorite suggestion on here) – $340
Last week, I had two of my dear friends request my favorite fall booties for this season. Let me just share my thoughts on booties with y’all. I wish I was 5’10 with legs for days but while I am relatively tall for a girl, my height is alllll in my torso and my legs are NOT just long and lean. I love a bootie though. The trick to flattering booties is to have a cut at the front that goes down at an ankle and doesn’t cut across your calf in a straight line (thank you Rag & Bone for getting me). If you have the legs to pull it off, go for it because it’s a great look but if you are LEG CHALLENGED like myself (no matter how many miles you run) get yo’self a pair of the below. Most of these have a chunkier heel which make them do-able for daytime play and also nighttime wear. If you have the cash, the Isabel Marant dickers are by far the coolest booties I have ever seen and our very own Lauren has these and is obsessed. I own the Club Monaco pair below and I can wear them all day long and not complain so that’s a plus. Get involved, people.
Top Row: Club Monaco Brooklyn -$398 // Joie Ajax (I love the slouch factor on these with leggings / skinnies and they come in great colors) – $295 // Vince Camuto Hillsy (comes in a few colors) – $160 // Rag & Bone Harrow (5 sick colors) – $525
Bottom Row: Rag & Bone Margot (my personal favorite) – $525 // Paul & Green Delgado – $389 // Splendid Addie – $178 // H by Hudson Kiver – $198
My bff is preggers and in need of flats for her aching feet (and probably the cocktail today’s post title implies!). The request came for flats in both black and tan. If you can afford it, there is nothing like a pair of Lanvin flats. But the hefty price tag is hard to justify so I came up with a few other options. Some can really dress up a pair of jeans, others are for running around the city to work (worth every penny in my opinion). Besides the below, a tried and true pair that come in black or tan patent every season are Vince Camutos (and they are under $80 so wear and tear them all you like).
Tan: Me Too Lilyana Flat – $54// Sam Edelman Felicia Flat (these come in a ton of colors) – $90 // Anniel Bow Flats (my favorite on this page and in black suede here for $125) – $175 // Sole Society Tanya Flats – $55 // Loeffler Randall Milla Flats – $250
Black: Loeffler Randall Karlotta Flat – $250 // Club Monaco Erika Bow Flat – $230 // Tieks in matte black (everyone loves these) – $175 // Belle by Sigerson Morrison Vanessa Flats – $195 // Repetto Patent Flats (the perfect flats) – $270
I got a request for some fun going out outfits that aren’t too fancy but are right on trend for this summer. My friend Ali loves white so I tried to incorporate that into my picks and tried to pick three very different outfits that take you easily from day to night summer style.
Left Column: The key accessory to a fun blazer? A gorgeous trendy white bag. This is why I drink white wine people! Botkier Legacy Bag (this might be my fav white bag of the summer) – $125 (was $195) // Lovers + Friends Marigold Blazer – $189
Middle Column: I love the idea of a breezy top with some super fun shorts. Delicate gold with a touch of geometry accentuates the cool ikat. Zara Pleated Top – $60 // Jules Smith Big Bang Cuff – $65 // Gorjana Vista Layered Necklace – $145 // JCrew Watercolor Ikat Shorts (aren’t these so much fun?!!) – $70
Right Column: While I could never pull this off, I am obsessed with this outfit. Navy + white in a flirty shape is great and these nude sandals will give your legs some serious lengthening. Parker Kingston Top – $198 // Parker Wesley Skirt – $220 // B Brian Atwood Chryssa Knotted Sandals – $245 (were $350)
My best friend is headed to St. John for a wedding in a month which we have realized is not an easy trip to plan an outfit for. Beach weddings are always tough but with summer prints not yet in full effect, I had to do some digging. I am a huge fan of the maxi for beach weddings but not everyone loves that look so here are a few of my favorite options. Rent The Runway options included! Besides the below, I pretty much love everything from Alice and Trixie for a beach wedding. This bright yellow maxi, this shorter more casual look, and this halter that comes in maxi or short version.
Top Row: Trina Turk Leah Shift Dress – $270 // Milly Neon Pink Punch Dress (also loving this gorge maxi on RTR) – $60 for a rental // Clover Canyon Fluorescent Rose Dress – $317
Bottom Row: Eliza J Pleat Maxi Dress – $160 //Lilly Pulitzer Janice Shift Dress – $188 // Alice and Trixie Amanda Maxi Dress (love this in all of the prints) – $200 (was $400)
I had a request by a friend of mine for a post on sports bras. We have had quite a few discussions on why this task is so flipping difficult. Such a struggle! There are a lot of “cute” ones on the market but this is one area where I will choose function over fashion. The goal is to find the one to support you on activities other than yoga poses which involve a lot of standing/non movement. While every girl’s tatas are different, the below selection is a good place to start.
Lululemon Ta Ta Tamer II – $58
I’m loving the look of this and I did try it on in the store. The girls swore by it but the $60 price tag for something I wear to the gym that gets really sweaty is what really dissuades me on this one.
Athleta T-Bird Sport Bra – $58
People swear by Athleta. While I am a Lulu girl myself, I like how this one dips down lower for if you are wearing a lower cut top and that you can change around the straps.
Adidas Supernova Racer Bra – $40
This comes in a ton of great colors and it is quite versatile. Wear it to yoga or on a run.
C9 by Champion High Impact Bra – $22
The winner to this contest??? Sports bras by Champion. I find they really keep everything in place without me even noticing. They’re super tight around the ribs and I think that’s the kicker. The molding also helps prevent you from looking completely flat chested.
Champion 360 Max Performance Sports Bra – $46
This by far and away my favorite. I literally do not move during my 45 minutes on the treadmill and I love how Amazon has it in a ton of colors. A+.
So the worst part about my job BY FAR is the fact that I have to carry my computer (and pretty much anything I want at work) with me at all times. I have a portable office in my tote bag and every single time someone picks it up they are shocked at how heavy it is. I swear, I don’t bring more than I need but carrying a computer back and forth everyday really stinks. I am so jealous of those girls on the subway who just carry a purse. JEALOUS. A lovely colleague of mine (and great PP reader) requested neutral colored tote bags for her to bring to work which means big enough for a laptop. Had budget not been a factor, I would recommend the bag I’ve been using for the past three years, the Mulberry Bayswater. IT IS THE BEST and ages so beautifully. Another Mulberry option for over 50% less is here too. Meanwhile, below are six other great options that aren’t outrageously priced but are high enough quality to use everyday.
Top Row: 1. Rachael Ruddick East West Shopper ($380) – This is Lauren’s favorite tote as of late and I echo her sentiments. It’s structure is gorgeous (very Phillip Lim-esque)! 2. Annabel Ingall Large Isabella Tote ($450) – A bit darker than the nudes but the leather is so pretty. We’ve featured this before in a travel tote request. 3. Halogen Leather 2-in-1 Bag ($228) – The adjustable straps on this guy will make your shoulders a lot happier.
Bottom Row: 1. Foley + Corinna Satchel Tote ($275 was $375) – I love this bag. It has great pockets and is just simple and classic. 2. Clare Vivier Besace Embossed Bag ($510) – For days when you are carrying the mini version of your laptop, this bag is gorgeous. Click on the link to see the gorgeous crocodile detail. 3. Rebecca Minkoff M.A.B. Tote ($300) – This bag is a great size and comes in some great colors but the Fatigue neutral looks like it would turn a gorgeous dark tan once you wear this guy a lot.
