SF Wedding Weekend Packing List

20 Oct

By Whitney

Wedding season is almost over but I have one fun one coming up this weekend in SF that I am seriously excited for.  A reunion with so many of b school friends means an awesome three day weekend is ahead of me.  Apparently a fall SF wedding weekend is now an annual event for me (see last year’s post that is quite similar) and I love it!!!  What to wear, what to pack in a carry on…all of that needs to be figured out asap!!

Wedding Weekend

Friday Night Drinks:  It gets chilly up in SF but not chilly enough to warrant full on winter wear.  I found this amazing Helmut Lang Leather Dress and it’s going to be a new LBD staple for me.  I’ll pair it with some suede Sigerson Morrison shooties (this is a term for booties + shoes combo because they’re not high enough to be considered a full on bootie) and an ivory boucle blazer to contrast the black.  When the top of a dress is such a statement, I always stick to a solid necklace that doesn’t drape too low.  This JCrew one is on sale and you’ll wear it over and over again.

Vino drinking:  One of the days we are headed up to Napa and this means a casual outfit that I’ll be comfy in.  I’m thinking some great jeans paired with an easy chiffon top that I can wear to work the day I fly out.  I’m loving this Linea Pelle Hip Belt that I got at Shopbop F&F.  I can never tell what SF weather will be so that Zara Boucle Blazer will come in handy. once again  I’ll pop on some neutral booties (obsessed with my Club Monaco ones) and then I’ll use this Prada bag. Just kidding because I don’t actually own this Prada but I saw it this weekend in navy and have decided to start a “#IWANTTHISPRADABAG” savings account.

Wedding: For the actual wedding, I struggled finding a great cocktail dress that I’ll actually wear again.  This weekend I popped into Rebecca Taylor for their F&F and of course came across amazing options.  I went with this ruffle shift that has such a stunning sheer back.  The neckline means hair is up and some statement earrings that will give me a pop of color.  I love the idea of these gorgeous Jimmy Choo wedges and a bold clutch to balance out my all black look.  Dream Shoes NBD.

Beach Wedding – April Edition

11 Mar

By Whitney

My best friend is headed to St. John for a wedding in a month which we have realized is not an easy trip to plan an outfit for.  Beach weddings are always tough but with summer prints not yet in full effect, I had to do some digging.  I am a huge fan of the maxi for beach weddings but not everyone loves that look so here are a few of my favorite options.  Rent The Runway options included!  Besides the below, I pretty much love everything from Alice and Trixie for a beach wedding.  This bright yellow maxi, this shorter more casual look, and this halter that comes in maxi or short version.

Beach Wedding Dresses 2

Top Row:  Trina Turk Leah Shift Dress – $270 // Milly  Neon Pink Punch Dress (also loving this gorge maxi on RTR) – $60 for a rental // Clover Canyon Fluorescent Rose Dress – $317

Bottom Row:  Eliza J Pleat Maxi Dress – $160 //Lilly Pulitzer Janice Shift Dress – $188 // Alice and Trixie Amanda Maxi Dress (love this in all of the prints) – $200 (was $400)

Splurge vs. Steal – Cocktail Dress

1 Nov

By Whitney

I saw this Lanvin dress in a magazine last month and just about gasped.  If I had a money tree (and actual events to wear things to) I would dress myself in Lanvin for everything.  The girly chic combo is right up my alley and this nude one shouldered ruffle number is amazing.  I love the idea of pairing it with black tights and black suede pumps for a wedding.  But most of us don’t have thousands to spend on a dress so this Halston Heritage version is a great alternative.  I love how the HH dress has black undertones under the ruffles.  Bring on the winter weddings and holiday parties!!

splurge vs. steal nude bow dress

Splurge:  Lanvin Asymmetric Duchess Satin Dress – $2990

Steal:  Halston Heritage One Shoulder Bow Dress – $375 (also comes in blue for us pale blondes who really should just never wear nude without a serious tan)

Fall Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Request

Rehearsal Dinner Dresses

By Whitney

My bff’s little sister is getting married in a month (so exciting) and I got the request of pulling together some rehearsal dinner dress options for my bestie.  Fall and winter weddings are great most because black is always acceptable.  We were emailing back and forth last week during all of the friends and family’s so 25% off of all of these prices was factored in.  My absolute favorite though?  The Zara dress I featured last week on my lust list.  I saw this little number over the weekend and the colors, fabric and pattern are just gorgeous.  In the meantime, if you are splurging on a dress this fall (and your sister’s wedding is quite the excuse to do so) there are so many gorgeous options in a variety of cuts.

Top Row:  Red Valentino Jersey Drop Waist Dress – $495 (loving this one too) //  Alice & Olivia Dot Shift Dress – $396  // DVF Abrielle Dress – $698

Bottom Row:  Milly Claudia Dress -$395 (my favorite dress for any event this fall) // Red Valentino Garden Print Dress (I have no words on the cuteness factor here) – $895 //3.1 Phillip Lim Chiffon Beaded Layer Dress – $595

Sonoma Wedding Packing List

26 Sep

By Whitney

My dear dear friend Kae is getting married this weekend in Sonoma and I am so excited to celebrate her big day. I’m headed there after the much-needed vacation to Hawaii I’m currently on (Aloha!) so all in all, I have a pretty great end of September. Sonoma in the fall is perfect weather but the key to my weekend will be layering so here we go.

Sonoma Packing List

Friday Night Drinks:

I love a Maje dress. They are form fitting, flattering and the “Darling” dress I am wearing in a steel blue color (only sold in black online) really lives up to its name. It’s a Friday night so I want to dress up without being too much so my go-to Roarke necklace will go well with the solid dress (thank you, PK). I’ll pair the dress with some more fall colors like my Hong Kong python bag (this Primary clutch is a great option as well) and some chunky suede heels.

Wine Tasting:

During the day on Saturday (and possibly Friday) we’ll be tasting some wine with friends and my new obsession with JCrew denim will come in handy. I’ll absolutely be bringing a leather jacket and this one still is one of my favorites at a verrrrry reasonable price. Throw a t shirt or a henley on depending on the weather (Splendid tees are my favorite), some neutral flats and a gorge statement necklace and I’m good for the day. I might add that the necklace can also go with either of my dresses as well if I’m feeling a change and the price is pretty A+ too.

I struggled with what to wear to this wedding for a while. I finally found a charcoal gray lace Milly dress that I’m now obsessed with and looks equally good with tights and without. Since the wedding is at a vineyard, wedges are a no-brainer. I’m most likely going necklace free and wearing longer earrings so I don’t take away from the perfect lace. Since it will be chilly at night, I’m bringing a Helmut Lang jacket that is fitted, cropped and thicker fabric to keep me looking chic while warming me up (and can also be paired with my outfit on Friday night!).

There is no outfit in this collage for Sunday but you can assume leggings, a sweatshirt and a blanket to cover my incredibly hungover face on the flight home to NYC.

Dress Request

10 Jun

by Lauren

We received a request from a certain international friend who is going to be attending several international weddings.  She needs a dress with some structure, a nipped waist, and with enough coverage for this type of auspicious setting.  While I have not been shopping for dresses at all recently, a quick search of shopbop (since she’s international shopbop is the most friendly for shipping arrangements), yielded a few great options.

DVF New Della

DVF New Della

I love the color & cut of this dress – and just as the model did, it would be great with a punchy necklace.  Plus the sash gives an ultra flattering silhouette.

A&O Tali Dress

Orange is the new black this season and since her weddings are in how climates, the cut outs on the back of this dress provide a little more breathing room while you are tearing it up on the dance floor.

Dolce Vita

Dolce Vita

This dress is super sweet & I love the tiny peek of the lower back.

Whitney and I are obsessed with this brand – she has this dress and I think its the most fab summer wedding dress – it’s also not nearly this short (I am gonna guess that this model is 7.5 feet tall). {Note: Nicholas is listed in AU sizes – a small is a 10}

Rebecca Minkoff Clara Dress

I absolutely love this dress and almost bought it in the tweed version (before realizing I have no occasion for it).  Had the store had this version in my size I would have gone for this version.  The pale gray and pink hues look so pretty in person & the cut on the dress is ultra flattering.

Milly Chevron

While this dress does have some white on it – the bold pattern mixed with the gray still makes it completely appropriate for a summer wedding.  I LOVE this dress.

A Happy Wedding Weekend

3 May

By Whitney

Happy Friday everyone!!  Lauren is hard at work studying for exams (let’s wish her all luck at the count of three…1,2,3!) and I am currently in Texas for a wedding that I could not be more excited for.  Congratulations to two of my favorites, Kevan and Abby (a loyal PP follower).  I can’t wait to celebrate but I figured I’d share what’s in my suitcase for the amazing weather I’m about to encounter.  I’d say the theme is….COLOR.

Wedding Weekend

Colorful shorts like these Lilly Pulitzers ($98) and a JCrew Tippi Sweater in peach or baby pink ($80) will be perfect with one of my go-to bright pairs of boatshoes ($88).  Adding a bright monogram necklace (thank you to Lauren for my perfect cobalt one!) will add just another perfect pop of color and I’ll balance it all out with a neutral bag.  Loving this Christopher Kon hobo ($475).

My big splurge of late was a seriously cool Nicholas dress.  I’m pretty pumped about it and can’t wait to pair it with a chunky JCrew necklace ($165) and sandal heels to add some skin to the look as Lauren suggested since the dress is pretty  covered up.  With all of the bright colors I might do a black bag to balance it all out. I am not even linking to a Chanel bag because the price is absurd but still.  It would look awesome.

I can’t get over just how gorgeous this ML Monique Lhiullier diamond back dress is.  Lauren and I have decided it is my new classic and it is so stunning.  I’m pairing it with a chunky pearl necklace and neutral ladylike pumps (like these amazing Ferragamo Tina Pumps – $575 – sorry.).  A bright pop of color in my Lauren Merkin hot pink silk clutch (similar here for $100)  is adding a little fun into my classic look.

I am also packing hot pink flip flops because those will be a must for Saturday night!!  xoxo

Work to Weekend – Travel Style

Work to Weekend - Kate Spade Terri

By Whitney

A lot of times I’ll take flights for the weekends straight from work…not an easy thing to plan for when you have a three day weekend packed into a carry on.  This means that whatever you’re wearing to work that day is an option for the weekend if you’re strategic in your packing (as I clearly believe in).  This upcoming weekend is a wedding one which means a rehearsal dinner/luncheon dress might be something I can wear to work before my flight on Thursday.  I have had my eye on this tweed Kate Spade number since it came out and it is just darling once you have it on.  It fits perfectly and while it is pricey right now, it was on sale at Bloomies last week and I have a feeling will drop its price soon…

On the left you’ll see how I’d take this dress to work…the key is neutrals.  I might spice it up with a pretty scarf or a pastel necklace but for the most part I’m rocking some nudes and light grays.  On the right is how I’d dress this up for a wedding event.  I love the idea of pairing this gorgeous mintey turquoise with a bright pop of color like yellow, pink or cobalt.  Such a polished way of wearing brights.

Dress:  Kate Spade Terri Dress – $450

Work:  JCrew Collection Windowpane Cashmere Cardigan – $270 // Adia Kibur Knot Necklace – $50 // Lauren Merkin Reece Croco Tote – $425 // CWonder Wool Gauze Rose Scarf – $68 // LK Bennett Sledge Pump – $345 // Adia Kibur Short Stone Necklace (woops two necklaces by the same designer but they are both so great for the price!) – $45

Weekend:  Tory Burch Spectator Clutch – $345 // Rachel Roy Gardner Pump – $180 // Tory Burch Neon Snake Cross Body Bag – $295 //BaubleBar Ivory Sun Bloom Necklace – $36 // Bounkit Sunstone & Lapis Button Earrings – $300 (also love these for much less)  // Juicy Couture Gina Pump – $130

Strappy Sandal Request

Strappy Sandal

By Whitney

I recently got the request for strappy sandals for fancier summer events.  There are so many great options and the colors right now are amazing.  Corals!  Mints!  Peaches!  I am loving them.  There are more classic styles like the L.K. Bennett Palma but there’s also the option to add some studs or ankle straps like the Vince Camutos or the super cool scalloped Isa Tapias.  I just love them all.

Top Row:  Rebecca Minkoff Bellina – $295 // Jean Michel Cazabat Orlanda Sandal – $245 // L.K. Bennett Palma – $375 // DVF Jujette Sandal – $298 (also in bright yellow!)

Bottom Row:  Vince Camuto Mikal Sandal – (also comes in other great neutrals) – $120 // Isa Tapia Lia Sandal – these are absolutely amazing in gorge colors – $395 //Charles David Icon Sandal (please note, these are coral not red. I would never post red patent strappy sandals.  Thank you.)  – $170 // Sam Edelman Abbott Sandal (these also come in such great summer colors) – $105

Little Miss Wu

14 Jan

By Whitney

Jason Wu has clearly been a golden child in the fashion world but my eyes were really open wide when this amazing dress came out.

Jason Wu Peplum

I also find this one to be the absolutely darling as well if you have like a grand to just throw around.

Clearly his fashions are way out of my price range but perhaps not anymore!  Jason just debuted his lower priced line (sold solely at Nordstroms right now) for Spring 2013 and it is absolutely adorable.  While the prices aren’t exactly low, they are much more reasonable (and affordable once they go on sale) and I can’t wait to get my hands on some of this stuff.  See the entire collection here but below are my favorites.

Jason Wu Outfit 1Tie Neck Crepe de Chine Blouse – $195 // Hem Detail Faille Skirt – $245

Miss Wu Outfit two

Lace Yoke Faille Dress – $495

Jason Wu Outfit 3Belted Crepe de Chine Shirtdress – $395
