Splurge vs. Steal – Polka Dot Sweater

Splurge vs. Steal - Polka Dot CashmereBy Whitney

The Equipment Sloane Polka Dot sweater is possibly my favorite sweater of this winter. I just love it. What I don’t love is it’s price tag. Max & Mia has a great version of the sweater in fun colors too and I swear the cashmere is soft and not crappy. And it’s like 25% of the price. Your choice.

Splurge: Equipment Sloane Dot Cashmere Sweater – $348 // Steal: Max and Mia Big Dot Cashmere Sweater – $56 (thank you to my mother for noticing that it went on sale from $79!)

I Heart Hearts. 2013 Version.

By Whitney

Valentine’s Day is not exactly our favorite PP holiday but I do love a holiday theme.  Last year around this time I wrote a very similar post and this year seems to be even better.  Valentine’s  (single or taken) means lots of hearts to adorn yourself with on pretty much any other day besides the 14th.  I own the JCrew heart print blouse (super similar factory version here) and it is worn any winter day to perk me up.  I want this umbrella ASAP!!

Being in Washington, D.C. – I am especially feeling the election heat.  Don’t forget to exercise your civic duty today by voting for our next President!  Don some red, white, and blue to showcase your partisan preference or your American spirit!

Spring Color Mixing

20 Mar

by Lauren

We received a request to begin talking about mixing colors this spring.
Right now, I have really enjoyed mixing Lilac + Red.  I think it’s an
updated twist on the pink/red fad that was so big in the fall.  For instance,
I purchased these amazing Current / Elliot lavender pants and wore them
with a blouse similar to this Equipment one & this one {actual here}.
I loved how the light pink stripes picked up the light lilac hue.  For something

a bit softer, the lilac pants could be worn with a warm mango.

One of Whitney’s personal favorite color combos is mixing shades of greens
and blues.  For instance, bright blue and neon green, or bright blue and turquoise.
I absolutely love these neon green jeans and think they would be amazing with
a cobalt shirt or something a bit nautical, like this white and navy striped
sweater {similar here}.

More to come on spring colors! Stay tuned!

Some News

22 Feb

by Lauren

So! As I mentioned last week, I have been inspired by pairing punched up pastels in monochromatic ways.  In particular, mint green has struck my fancy as of late.  I found a great monochrome mint ensemble last week at Bloomingdales – preview, below:

Jeans: Free People
Shirt: Equipment

I put this outfit together (sans accessories in this photo) for an exciting collaboration that my fabulously gay bestie, Van, and I are doing with the Washingtonian.  A few months ago we started a DC style, photo-book of sorts called Necessary & Proper and it quickly caught the attention of an editor at our favorite DC mag.  I think the online segment will be coming out in the next couple of weeks – so stay tuned here for updates on that.  I can’t divulge too much until then!

Loving Equipment

13 Jan

by Lauren

Now that I am a full time student again, my wardrobe has demanded some major changes.  Gone are the days (temporarily) of pencil skirts, cardigans, and shells and back are the days of jeans, casual blouses, sweaters, & riding boots…or casual weekend wear as I would normally call it.  This has underscored my love for Equipment.  I get so much wear and use out of each Equipment blouse that I have.  The price tag is usually steep, but if you can score one on sale, it’s well worth it.  I love wearing these blouses over jeans, black pants, & tucked into leather shorts or skirts.  The possibilities are endless, and so are the fun patterns and colors Equipment dreams up.

I am absolutely dying for the Equipment star blouse (top right) & I have coveted the mango blouse for quite some time – this looks so hot with pink, blue, turquoise – you name it.  And I cannot get enough of these bold navy & aqua stripes – this is Whitney’s personal pick.  Red & pink is going to be hot into spring, and if this trend is for you – the Equipment blouse creates an easy way to rock this look.  Polka dots are obviously a simple way to look fresh & flirty & a navy/white pattern will take you well into spring.

Winter Wear

15 Nov

by Lauren

Even though it was 70 degrees in D.C. today, the time has come to think about cold weather outfits and combos.  School and work have been crazy these last few weeks so I have not been scouring the inter-webs for clothing, but here are a few things that I think will be clutch for winter wear.

Outerwear:

I’ve really been loving going faux (fur that is).  I feel good about saving the cute little animals and the right pick still looks luxe and fab.  I have been wearing my Michael Michael Kors faux fur vest CONSTANTLY – so much in fact, that I have been contemplating adding another color to my collection.  This Milly one is on sale and I think the color is perfect for winter.  On the faux note, I love this brand Mink Pink & their camel faux fur coat is a fun touch for finishing off a going out ensemble + the price won’t break your bank (@ $148).  During the Saks sale last week, this Add Down coat I have been eyeing for an eternity went on sale.  It’s not on sale anymore but keep an eye out – their puffy coats are the absolute best – warm but not overly bulky, and the material has a nice finish to it.  I like to make sure that my puffy coats have a belt – there is nothing worse than looking like the abominable snowman with a round waist.

Underwear:

I have been really into wearing pants these days.  This is a far cry from my former self that only wore dresses.  Hot pink is the perfect shade for the holiday season and into the dark, dismal winter months.  I absolutely love the electric hue of these Jenni Kayne’s but the DVF pair are slightly less expensive – and look great cuffed up.  Although I try to save the animals by wearing faux fur, my affinity for leather can’t be curbed.  I am obsessed with the Susana Monaco leather and wool leggings & of course this Madewell leather skirt.  The former are a great classic / edgy hybrid.  My love for Equipment blouses will never die and that love coupled with my penchant for animal print = love @ first sight for this pale gray number.

Adieu Work Life

9 Nov

by Lauren

As many of you know, I am leaving my job in ten days to focus exclusively on finishing up my JD.  I’m not sure about you, but once you put in your “notice” it becomes increasingly harder to get out of bed, get dressed, and head to the 9-5.   Obviously, I am focused on the middle challenge.  It’s hard to get dressed for a job you’re leaving!  My uniform has become an equipment blouse and black pencil skirt or black pants.  My favorite pencil skirt is this knit DVF I purchased about 4 (?!) years ago.  It was a splurge at the time for my entry-level salary but it is probably my #1 work staple.  It just goes to show that investing in a nice piece goes a long way. {similar here}

Blouse: Equipment
Note:  My one issue with this blouse is that it snags.on.everything.  Keep the chiffon equipment blouses away from Velcro and any rough surface.  Drives me batty.  This one is particularly snaggy.

While we’re on Equipment…

19 Oct

by Lauren

As long as we’re talking about Equipment blouses, enter Meghan and her perfect travel get up.  Meghan is wearing the classic Equipment blouse in a taupe color, her new fur vest from Wink NYC, black jeggings, boots by Dolce Vita (last season), socks by Falke, and a brown belt.  I’m obsessed and will probably be copying this outfit ASAP.

Thank you, MP for yet another excuse to purchase an Equipment blouse, lace up booties, and a fur vest.
